Belize’s heritage is one of the most diverse and culturally rich in the world. Its stories, languages, and traditions connect generations and capture centuries of Central American and Caribbean history. A lot of this information still exists in fragile forms, such as handwritten documents, and photographs, which continue to fade. “I see AI as a way to bridge the gap of getting Belizean history and culture to the people…Being able to pull directly from newspapers, poetry, videos and magazines can speed up the process to capture and access our history and culture" stated Carlos Quiroz from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science & Technology.
His perspective captures why modern tools are becoming essential for preserving Belize’s past and keeping it accessible. Eyelevel AI and Avatar Buddy® collaborated to build a private, unique experience for every Belizean and generations to come. “Our company’s ability to help preserve this valuable historical and cultural heritage accurately and securely is some of the most gratifying work our team has done” stated Neil Katz – Eyelevel AI Co-Founder and COO.
Eyelevel’s platform, powered by GroundX, includes four key systems: Ingest, Store, Search, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to process, organize, and store information with precision. The Ingest layer uses a fine-tuned vision model trained on millions of enterprise documents to recognize complex layouts, such as handwritten manuscripts, tables, diagrams, and multilingual text. A multimodal transformation engine converts these visuals into clean, usable data. Dynamic chunking then breaks large content into readable blocks, allowing the model to handle every detail accurately.
Eyelevel can launch in an on-prem environment or even air-gapped but in this case the data is stored in a secured cloud environment. Nothing is sent to public servers.
Every document stays private and under complete control of Belizean institutions. “What a perfect partnership between two technology companies with a shared passion for leveraging technology in service of people. This wasn’t just a project—it was the opportunity to pursue a noble and worthy goal,” stated Stephanie Sylvestre - Avatar Buddy® CEO. “For a country built on cultural identity and shared memory, accuracy and security matter, and each document, image, and story is preserved correctly and remains accessible for the future.”
